Currently Reading: Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger

Why: Because The Devil Wears Prada and Everything Worth Knowing are guilty pleasures.

Impressions: Eh.  I read the scathing reviews for this book an amazon.com but still figured I’d give it a try.  The long wait-list at the library further piqued my interest.  I was wrong.  It’s dragging and I’m not even half-way through.  Unlike TDWP and EWK, this one has three main characters.  Instead of creating a bumbling and loveable heroine whose head we get inside, Weisberger created three vague character outlines whose lives seem vapid and one-dimensional.

Emmy is a chef who is still going through career angst at age 30 (doesn’t it ever get better people?) and has just been dumped by her boyfriend of 5 years (a cocky egomaniac who seems like an unlikely choice for someone whose obsessed with marriage and kids).  Leigh is a work-a-holic book editor who isn’t in love with her boyfriend, yet somehow let things get to the point of him proposing.  Adriana is unemployed and the gorgeous daughter of an ex-supermodel; I guess I don’t really get the point of Adriana or understand why she would be friends with two such downers.  For the matter, I don’t see why they care about each other so much- they seem like self-absorbed bitches.  The point of the novel is supposed to be that the three women make life-altering decisions and agree to carry forth with them in the next year.  Frankly, I don’t feel the impact of their decisions and fail to see why I should care.

Anyway, that’s my rant.  Maybe the book will get better and some huge character insights and developments will occur in the next hundred pages or so.

People around my office are always calling each other “Trouble.” As in, “Uh oh! HERE COMES TROUBLE!” when they see a friend walking down the hall towards them. Is that some really cute thing and I’m just lame because I think it’s irritating?

I’m not the biggest wearer-of-jewlery, but Alexis Bittar has always been a favorite of mine. Saw someone on one of the fashion blogs posted about him and I couldn’t help but look at the new stuff he has on his website.
